SSP Percentage Threshold Scheme abolished and funding recycled into HWS from 6th April 2014

An independent review of sickness absence in the UK by the DWP in 2011 found a lack of access to occupational health advice as one of the obstacles of people returning to work. The government agreed to introduce the Health and Work Service (HWS) to make independent expert health and work advice more widely available to employers, employees, and General Practitioners (GPs). The HWS will be funded by abolishing the SSP Percentage Threshold Scheme (PTS), which currently costs the exchequer £50m a year.
